Algeria's Fuel and Energy Complex Structure

Abstract
The fuel and energy complex of Algeria is considered. Algeria is one of the largest producers of oil and gas not only in Africa but also around the world. The oil and gas industry is a backbone sector; the country’s economy is based on the oil and gas extraction and exports.
In Algeria, the implementation of infrastructure construction, urbanization, and economic activity revitalization programs in industrial sectors have led to a growing demand for electricity production. The annual growth rate of electricity production volumes is 5–7%.
The major part of electricity is generated at thermal power plants. The growth is mainly due to the use of combined gas turbine power plants. High-capacity combined cycle units (CCUs) and gas turbine units (GTUs) equipped with General Electric 9FA and 9FB gas turbines, Alstom GT26, and Siemens SGT5-4000F gas turbines prevail in their mix. Recent years have seen diversification of the energy complex through the development of renewable energy sources.
